Fall Wreath

I bought this wreath at Hobby Lobby for like 3 dollars 2 years ago and added some white little florals that were a dollar for a whole branch of them and it usually does the job year-round, with little variations depending on the season.
I love fall colors and love decorationg my wreath for fall.
I visited Hobby Lobby again this morning, and bought some of their fall florals that they have for 50% off. I came home and put the new ones with old stuff I had, took out some old ribbon I've had stashed in the closet, and now my wreath looks like this!

So easy, I spent less than $6 dollars, and I get to take pride in having created it myself!

Deal of the Day!!

A visit to target always ends up with me buying a lot of whats on the clearance rack in the women's section. because I am a recovering shopaholic.
Since I'm trying to work on those urges to buy clothes, I checked out the decor section.
And well, all I have to say is at least it wasn't clothes. Because I still bought something.

(they're still in their plastic wrap)

I found these lamps that would go great in a guest bedroom and I was about to pass them up when I looked at the price tag and decided they were going home with mommy.
These lamps were $1.24 each. They are a perfect size for a small night stand and someday when I have a bigger house and have more rooms to decorate, I'm sure these will come in handy.
Until then, I'll use one in Jackson's room and one in my room, since our old ones are ready to be thrown out.

Happy Shopping!

Baby Room: Window Treatments

After brainstorming on what to do for the windows in the baby's room, I came across a couple of blog entries like this one and this one to make pelmet boxes. They looked so easy to make I had to give it a try.
This is what I had to buy:
2 42'' foam boards
duct tape
hot glue gun
batting
1.5 yards of fabric
exacto knife
First I cut the front of what the box would look like. These boxes I cut out are about 14'' long and about 42'' wide.
Then I cut out some pieces for the back of the box that will allow it to hang from the wall. The long ones are 3'' long and 42'' wide and the small ones are 3'' long and 14'' wide.
After I had everything cut out, I taped them with duct tape to make the shape of the box. I put the piece of board on top so that it can rest on the curtain rod and I don't have to screw anything to the wall.
Then I cut out the batting and fabric and laid it out under the box and started gluing it to the foam board with the hot glue gun.
After a lot of burnt fingers from the hot glue gun and a lot of creative pulling and tugging of the fabric, I came up with this final product. To make it stay up, I actually put a couple of drops of hot glue on the the ends of the curtain rod and pressed on the top of the foam board that goes directly above the rod to keep it in place. Tadahh! hope you liked it!

Nursery

After buying 3 different bedding sets for the crib online,
going and looking at fabric so my mom and I could make our own (because I got too impatientfrom waiting for them to arrive),
deciding I didnt want to spend all that time sewing,
and receiving and returning all the bedding sets I bought online,
I finally found one that I fell head over heels over.

and I'm in love.

the walls are painted.
the crib is put together.
and slowly we are getting closer
to meeting our little baby.

I'll put pictures up when it's ready.
I promise.

Before and After

Before
After

The curtains were a tease because I really wanted to show
you guys the whole living room.
We changed up our collage wall to something a little more uniform.
We loved our large collection of pictures,
but thought maybe no one wants to see
all of our lovey dovey pictures every time they come to our house.

So.. what do you think?
I am personally head over heels over this room right now.
It feels so cozy and welcoming.

Oh, and you see the tiny black and white painting of the pot of flowers?
I did it in 30 seconds.
If you're interested, let me know,
I'll sell them super cheap in sets or alone.

Curtains

I made curtains.
scratch that.
My mom made curtain and I watched.
scratch that.
We both made curtains,
But she more than I.

Either way, they turned out beautiful.
And now everytime I get home I smile when I look at them.
Did you notice we painted our wall too?
We have a perfect little house.

Stressed OUT

I had a pretty relaxing weekend that should have been spent... not relaxing.
So this week I am paying for it and having to do a million things.
I am trying to get my house looking clean for Thanksgiving,
specially since we are putting up all of our Christmas decorations this weekend.
We painted a wall in the living room and now have a mess of things all over the house.
I think that having everything out of place is making me crazy
so posts this week may be ...non existent for the most part.

I can't wait to show you pictures of our living room once it's all finished!

Be Honest

I need your honest opinion.
Is this room too blah? Is it a little too neutral?
Take into concideration the books and the toys and cute things that will make this room really welcoming and baby friendly.
I can't decide if this is something that I would really enjoy so I need you to be nice and honest.

So go ahead and talk, and don't worry about the pregnant lady's feelings.
I'm one tough cookie.

Complimentary Room- Boy

Here is room number two. This is definitely a more masculine room with a couple more punches of color throughout.
I love the bedding (from Target) and since it's blue, I decided to pair it off with its complimentary color-orange. I think it is a fun room full of life and any kid would love playing in a space like this. I love the collage look with frames (I have a collage in my living room) and I think it adds a lot of personality. The bird mobile is gorgeous and simple and it is something you could probably even create yourself with a little bit of creativity.

I will create a couple more rooms tomorrow, before we are off to find out what our little baby decides to be.

Simplicity Room - Girl

Ok, I love everything about this room and I think it would work perfectly for a girl's nursery. I love all of the neutral pieces with touches of color here and there. I love how you can square off a part of a wall (E.) and make it a small decorative spot. I would probably do it in the seafoam green (F) to add some color, since I would probably keep the walls the tan color they are right now. The circular rug would look amazing in the center of the room for some interest. I love the mural (B) and think it would be a perfect way to get yourself very involved in the process of decorating. I think I might do something like that whether it be in those colors or even something a little different.
This is a dream nursery for me. I for sure want a small chandelier if it does happen to be a girl because I think it adds so much femininity to a room. Anyway, a lot of the pieces in this room are reaaally expensive or found somewhere online so I dont have prices but I would only be using this as inspiration (except for the crib, which we own) since if I tried to recreate this room entirely, I would end up without a leg, an arm, and maybe an eye.
Do you like?

Room Ideas

Since we get to have our ultrasound done tomorrow, and get to find out what we are having on Friday (!!!!), I have decided to start creating a couple of mood boards for different baby room ideas. Make sure to let us know what your favorite ideas are, since I will be all about decorating that room from next week on. I will be back later today for my first idea.

Yearning for Change

I remember moving at least 15 times throughout my life.
This is just off the top of my head, by the way; there might have been more.
And I guess that has completely accustomed me to change.
Even in the places we stayed at for longer than 6 months,
my mom would rearrange the furniture constantly
and every couple of months it was like coming home to a new place.

I loved it, I think. Or maybe I just got used to it?
So used to it, actually, that I find myself yearning for change when change doesn't come.
Whether this be in a home, life, education, etc.
We have lived in our home for almost a year (!)
and I have already changed the living room three times.
Master bedroom twice.
and I'm always finding ways to add something to the kitchen.

And that's where these come in:

I want to paint my cabinets cream and antique them and make them look this miraculous. And you know what would look great with cream cabinets? a back splash of greens, blues, creams and browns.

If only I could convince James that this is a good idea...

which I can guarantee you will NOT happen. But a girl can dream right?

The Decision

After too much of a hassle to get crib#2,
we decided it was probably not meant to be.
It was supposed to be free shipping
and even some percentage off because it was on a big sale,
but at check out it would not do it.
We asked about it, fought for it, but nothing.
We went to Target, to see if they had crib #2 there by any chance,
but it was an online deal only.
Anyway, we searched and searched and ended up getting the crib above.
It was very sturdy, on a great sale, and brought a free mattress!
Did I mention it was beautiful too??
Plus, we think it will go great with what we have planned for the changing table.
So stay in touch and watch for the transformations!

Do you like the new crib?

Decisions I need YOU to make for us.

Guys.
We're having a dilemma.
I like both of these cribs.
A lot. And so does James.
But, obviously, we can only buy one.
I like the first one because of its clean and simple lines.
I like the second one because it has a lot of dimension and it is unique.
They are both unique.
I love the combination of the white and the expresso because
we are planning on refinishing the other pieces for the room this way.
And now I am at a blank.
James already told me which one he liked, and I kind of like the other
but I won't tell you so you won't be biased.

Anyway. Help me.
Pretty please.

You have until about 4:00 pm today.
Then I'm taking the plunge!
But please. help.
Love you,
Us.

Antique Fabric

Remember my July list? Well, I still haven't gotten #3 done, but I wanted to show you this beautiful fabric. We bought it at an estate sale around our house. They had so many great antique pieces for a very affordable price (it was an old lady's house who used to collect EVERYTHING and died), but James wouldn't let me collect "garbage." Dang him. But it's hand painted on linen and very delicate. And you want to know how much I bought it for?? .50 cents! I really need to get on this! Pillow here I come!

Who doesnt love a before and after!?

I wanted to show you guys one of the small projects going on in our house at this time. I am pretty sure there will be a couple more changes, like some small shelves over the toilet instead of the picture, but this is what we have for now and we love it.

BEFORE

AFTER

This bathroom was fun to do. Most of the stuff in it we already had, but even if we count everything as new, it only cost $50 to do this bathroom, including the paint, accesories and towels (excluding the mirror which was a wedding gift). If we only count new things we bought, it only cost us about $20. Nice huh?! Mostly everything was either on sale or bought with a coupon :)
Anyway, if you'd like to know where we got any of the things above, just let me know!

Bedroom

I didn't lie! I told you I would show you
Remember when I told you we painted a wall in our room?
This is kind of what it looks like now.
Except, it has already had some changes.
Because I'm a gemini, and I can do such things.

Oh, and just because I like to brag,
my husby made that bed.
And it's delicious.

TRUE STORIES:

This weekend we got bored,
So we painted our room.
The sun was out,
so we played outside in long sleeve t-shirts.
We found a new delicious hawaiian restaurant,
so we ate there 2 nights in a row.
I was needing a little creativity,
so my best friend taught me how to scrapbook.

GASP.
We loved it.

I promise I'll post pictures of the bedroom.
When it's in order, and I remember.

Happy Monday!
